Past events
Some of our past events include:
- Connections: an exhibit of donated art, February 22, 2009 at Mess Hall. Artwork displayed at this event included contributions from students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The artwork was then donated to participants of the Howard Area Community Center's Family Literacy Program
- La Posada Interim Housing, June 29, 2008. La Posada Interim Housing, a program of Casa Central, provides transitional housing and assistance in securing permanent housing for formerly homeless families. JSA donated 40 pieces of artwork during this event.
- Our second annual fundraiser, in January 2008, provided another opportunity for our friends and supporters to gather and view recently donated artwork. This event was held at the Brickton Art Center in Park Ridge.
- Helmut Jahn SRO, September 23, 2007. Mercy Lakefront Housing operates the Helmut Jahn-designed SRO, consisting of 96 units. JSA donated a piece of original art to each of the 96 residents.
- Our first annual fundraiser was held February 9, 2007 at the Brickton Art Center in Park Ridge, IL. A gallery show and festive reception was held for artist donors and supporters. Art on exhibit was gifted to families through Maine Township Family Services and to women and children living at WINGS, a shelter for battered women.
- Holland Apartments, November 4, 2006. Mercy Lakefront Housing operates the Holland Apartments on the far south side of Chicago. This is one of their several sites that provides housing and support for the homeless. SRO Lakefront has sheltered the homeless since the early 1980's and recently joined with the Mercy organization. Our event was a morning coffee hosted by JSA for the residents of the Holland Apartments. Twenty six art works were given to individuals.
- Northwestern University Settlement House, September 26, 2005. This was our kick off event. Northwestern Settlement House in Chicago has been a community resource center serving immigrants and the needs local people for over 150 years. The Settlement House chose families who participated in a weekly reading program. Those twenty families were given an original work of art during an evening reception with artist donors and supporters. All art is a gift and the recipient's name or number is drawn and matched to the art at random.
