About Us

Jump-start Art is a "not-for-profit" organization devoted to the gifting of art to individuals who have struggled to overcome obstacles in their lives in order to create a home; those who have not had the opportunity to buy original art work for their home.

We believe the aesthetic experience of art should be available to all.

Artists donate art work and Jump-start Art facilitates the delivery of the work to recipients through private and public community agencies throughout the Chicago area.

History

In the summer of 2004 three events gave me the idea to gift original art to the non gallery going public. The events were the opening of Millennium Park in Chicago, a visit to an artist friend’s home and reading two recent novels.

I was inspired by the community’s embrace of world class art by artists Jaume Plensa and Anoosh Kapoor. The aesthetic experience of the sculptures is available to all.

An artist friend showed me a backlog of work. Art work stored instead of seen and shared.

In the novel Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, as in the novel Saturday by Ian McEwan, criminal acts are thwarted by the experience of art. The power of art can shift one’s perception for positive result. Art has the ability to empower all of us.

In sharing these experiences with a group of likeminded friends, Jump-start Art was formed.
